Blackbird Pickers is an Americana roots band based in Prattville, Alabama, blending a rich mix of bluegrass, country, folk, and rock. Formed in 2010, the band brings together four multi-instrumentalists with deep Southern roots and a shared love for storytelling through music. Fronted by Michael Baker (guitar, vocals, mandolin, banjo, harmonica, hi-hat) and Matt Strickland (guitar, mandolin, banjo, harmonica, vocals, kick drum), the lineup also includes Jarrad Glover on five-string upright bass and Theo Pinson on keys, melodica, and snare drum.
Drawing inspiration from legends like Bob Dylan, The Band, Hank Williams, Elton John, Robert Johnson, Tom Petty, and countless others Blackbird Pickers craft songs that feel both timeless and raw. Their 2013 album Ellisville showcases this blend — rich in harmony, steeped in Southern truth, and driven by stories of small towns, heartache, and hope. Known for their dynamic live performances, the band has played venues and festivals across the Southeast, including appearances at the Waverly Bluegrass Festival, Alabama Shakespeare Festival, Alex City Jazz Fest, the Cloverdale Concert Series, Prattville City Fest, and many more.
Whether on stage or in the studio, Blackbird Pickers embody the spirit of honest, handmade music. With a sound that bridges front porch picking and road-worn rock, they continue to connect with audiences who crave authenticity and soul. As they build on the momentum of Ellisville, the band is currently writing new material and booking shows across the region for 2026 and beyond. The Lyric at Esther’s is an All-Ages, Family-Friendly venue with Free Admission, Games, Food, Dinks and Sporting Events on Big-Screen Televisions.
